How to Safely Mail VHS Tapes for Digitization

A few minutes of preparation can make a box of irreplaceable family tapes easier to track and better protected during shipment.

1. Confirm the order before you ship

With Forever Remembered, start by submitting an inquiry. Wait until the project is confirmed and you receive the mailing instructions before sending your tapes.

2. Make an inventory

Write down the number of tapes you're sending or take clear photos of the collection. If tapes already have labels, preserve those labels rather than renaming everything immediately before shipping.

3. Protect each tape

Keep original plastic cases when you have them. For loose tapes, use clean protective sleeves or bags that prevent direct rubbing and help keep debris away from the cassette openings.

4. Use a sturdy outer box

Choose a box that is strong enough for the weight of the collection. Fill empty space with protective packing material so the tapes cannot move freely when the box is gently shifted.

5. Keep your shipping record

Retain your carrier receipt and tracking information until the package is confirmed delivered. Your inventory or photos also give you a simple reference for the items you sent.
