VHS & DVD Digitization FAQ
Common questions about mail-in conversion, digital delivery, pricing, turnaround, and your original media.
What media formats do you accept?+
We currently convert VHS tapes and DVDs. If you have a different format — such as Hi8, MiniDV, or Betamax — mention it in your inquiry notes and we'll let you know whether we can help.
What file format will my videos be in?+
We deliver your videos as MP4 files, which play on virtually every modern smartphone, computer, smart TV, and tablet without special playback software. Electronic MP4 delivery is included in the digitization price.
How do I send my tapes and discs to you?+
Once we've reviewed your inquiry and confirmed the details, we'll provide a mailing address and packing tips. Please don't ship anything until we've been in touch first. We strongly recommend tracked shipping and careful packing.
Will I get my original tapes and discs back?+
Yes. Your original media is checked against the project inventory and returned after digitization. Return shipping is charged separately and the return shipment is tracked.
What if a tape or disc is damaged?+
We work with the media in the condition in which it arrives and do not perform tape or disc repair work. We can't guarantee recovery of content from damaged or deteriorated media. If the condition limits what can be captured, we'll contact you about what is possible.
Who is responsible if media is damaged in shipping?+
Customers are responsible for packing their media securely and for the risk of loss or damage while a package is in a shipping carrier's custody. Carrier handling is outside our control, so we recommend tracked shipping and any carrier protection you consider appropriate for irreplaceable media.
How long does VHS or DVD digitization take?+
Turnaround time depends on the size of your collection and current volume. We'll give you an estimate once we've reviewed your inquiry rather than publishing a timeline that may not apply to your order.
How much does VHS or DVD digitization cost?+
Pricing is the same for VHS tapes, DVDs, and mixed collections: $200 for up to 3 tapes or discs total, then $50 for each additional item. Electronic MP4 delivery is included. A USB flash drive is $20 extra and return shipping is charged separately.
How is a mixed VHS and DVD collection priced?+
Count all tapes and discs together. The same formula applies to the total number of items, regardless of media type. For example, 3 VHS tapes plus 2 DVDs is 5 items, so the digitization price is $300 before an optional USB drive and return shipping.
Are there any other fees?+
Other than the digitization price, the optional $20 USB flash drive, and return shipping, there are no other service fees. We do not perform repair work or add repair charges.
Is there a minimum or maximum order?+
We can handle anything from a single tape or disc to a large collection. Contact us for details on very large orders.
Is my inquiry information kept private?+
Yes. We use your contact information only to respond to your inquiry and provide the service. See our Privacy page for full details.
